Cadence boosts EDA hardware emulation and prototyping
Cadence has announced its next generation of emulation and prototyping hardware. Both aimed at of multi-billion-gate SoC designs, Palladium Z2 Enterprise Emulation is for pre-silicon hardware debug, and Protium X2 Enterprise Prototyping is for pre-silicon software validation. They follow on from Palladium Z1 and Protium X1. Based on Xilinx UltraScale+ VU19P FPGAs, “these systems provide customers with 2x capacity and 1.5x ...
Software tailors DFM for process capabilities to accelerate PCB production
Software that enables designers and manufacturers to collaborate via the cloud to design PCBs and to identify and correct any manufacturability violations according to a specific manufacturer’s capabilities. PCBflow design software is the first to enable secure, cloud-based interactions between electronics design and manufacturing teams to accelerate design-to-manufacturing handoff for PCBs. The inital release has instant design for manufacturability (DFM) analysis. ...
X-Fab adds photodiodes to 180nm process, from UV to near-IR
X-Fab Silicon Foundries has added a photodiode-specific process core module to its XS018 180nm CMOS sensor process – previously XS018 had been focused on the fabrication of multi-pixel CMOS image sensors. Through the new module, customers get access to six different photodiode options covering wavelengths from ultra-violet through to near-infra-red. Amongst the photodiodes, 40% quantum efficiency is available in the UVA ...
Is SiC for you? Try this on-line calculator
UnitedSiC has launched a simple on-line design tool to calculate power losses and other parameters for power supplies using the company’s silicon carbide transistors and diodes. Called FET-Jet Calculator, no registration is needed, although you do have to click a minimal user agreement. This is not the sort of tool that tells you which transistors to use for a certain ...
Apple to set up €1bn IC design centre in Munich
Apple is to invest over 1 billion euros in a Munich design centre focussed on wireless technologies including 5G. Apple’s plan is to move people into the 30,000-square-metre building in Karlstrasse near central Munich in late 2022. The centre will hire hundreds of people. “I couldn’t be more excited for everything our Munich engineering teams will discover — from exploring the ...
Lattice updates embedded vision and security tools for programmable logic
Lattice has updated its mVision embedded vision and Sentry security tool suits. mVision 2.0 has expanded support for automotive, industrial and medical embedded vision, with new development boards supporting popular image sensors for industrial and medical applications including Sony’s IMX464 and IMX568, and the AR0344CS from ON Semiconductor. Support for Lattice Propel Design Environment has also been added, aiming at ...
Sondrel reference designs cut design cost, risk and time by 30%
Sondrel has launched a family of reference designs that could reduce design costs, risk and time by up to 30% compared to starting from scratch. The company has drawn on its experience of designing hundreds of ASICs to create a set of key reference designs that each provide a fast design time for high growth markets. “In a given application ...
ST adds more security to STM32MP1 ecosystem
STMicroelectronics has added security tools and a security partner to the ecosystem that supports its STM32MP1 dual-core microprocessors. “We are adding security mechanisms such as OP-TEE and the TF-A project as another building block of our investment in this product line,” the company told Electronics Weekly. “We also added Sequitur, with Sequitur Labs’ EmSpark Security Suite, to our list of ...
DAC date is Dec 2021
The DAC Executive Committee has announced that the Design Automation Conference will move from its summer date to 5-9 December 2021. It is hoped that the postponement will allow time for a vaccination rollout and travel restrictions to be eased for a ‘real life’ event to take place.
