7in colour touch display last 20,000 hours.

Inelco Hunter has introduced a 7in colour touch display with a predicted operational life of 20,000 hours.

“The 7in size is particularly suitable for applications requiring a long-life, high-brightness touch screen,” according to the company. “Examples include electric vehicle chargers, autonomous devices, data routers, industrial controls, IoT home products and smart shopping trolleys.”

It is a 800 x 480 transmissive 425cd/m2 LCD with a ST72568 compatible 24bit RGB interface and an I2C touch screen interface.


Operation is over -20 to +70°C and the lifetime figure above is MTBF at 25°C and 160mA.


Overall size is 193 x 111mm and the surround is black in colour

  1. An MTBF of 20,000 really isn’t that impressive at all, I’d certainly not want to use it. If I had a display with such a low MTBF, I’d try and hide that fact, not advertise it

  2. You’re going to need to explain this to me. It looks like the MTBF is 20,000 hours, which I consider low. If you have 20 installed somewhere, running 24/7, you’d expect to have to replace one every 1,000 hours (42 days) on average. I know that displays are not that reliable in general, but 20,000 MTBF hours seems to be on the low side.

      I re-checked the document, and it says 20,000, so I have passed your comment to Inelco Hunter for an answer.
