Unlike the original which used an external board, the new display integrates its driver circuitry within its enclosure itself. This makes for a slimmer assembly once the Pi is installed.
7inch touch display
Active area is 155 x 88mm and five-finger touch is supported by the hardware and the Raspberry Pi operating system. For landscape or portrait operation, screen rotation is also supported.
Overall size is ~190 x120mm and it attaches to the Pi with four screws.
Power (provided from the Pi) and data cables are included for both DSI connector formats the company uses. These are: standard and mini.
Touch Display 2 will remain in production until 2030 at the earliest, “allowing our embedded and industrial customers to build it into their products and installations with confidence”, said the company.
“The original Touch Display will remain in production for the foreseeable future, although it is no longer recommended for new designs.”

Glad to see an update, that display felt like was getting very long in the tooth.
