House of Lords Space Committee to work on UK strategy

Space strategy experts will appear before a cross-party Lords Committee on Monday July 7 to answer questions on how the UK should adapt and evolve in a changing political landscape.

The latest evidence session of the Lords UK Engagement with Space Committee will take place from 3.30pm in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster, and can be watched live on Parliament TV.  

The Committee is more than half-way through its inquiry, and publishes its report to Government in the autumn. 

Questions are likely to focus on: 

  • The Government’s performance on space policy 

  • Whether the UK should seek to create a sovereign space programme 

  • The UK’s relationship with the European Space Agency and EU 

  • The UK’s relationships with international partners such as Australia and Japan 

    The Committee will hear from:

  • Colin Baldwin, Executive Director, UK Space 

  • Prof Sir Martin Sweeting, Executive Chairman of Surrey Satellite Technologies Ltd 

  • Alderman Prof Emma Edhem, Lord Mayor’s Aldermanic Envoy for Space, Technology and Innovation, City of London Corporation 

  • Gabriel Elefteriu, Senior Research Fellow (Space Power), Council on Geostrategy
