3-D imaging makes an impact on PCB optical inspection

Goepel-small-300x200.jpg

Goepel Electronic will use next month’s Electronica exhibition in Munich to present a 2D/3D camera module for optically inspecting PCBs and ball grid-array chip packages. 3-D imaging is now making its impact on automated optical inspection (AOI) and the key feature, says Goepel, is providing shadow-free 3D measurement. What it has done with the 3D·ViewZ module is to combine 2D image acquisition ...

Mentor acquires chip defect reduction tool firm Galaxy

Mentor Graphics has announced in the run-up to the Electronica exhibition that it will buy Galaxy Semiconductor, defect reduction software for the semiconductor industry. According to the EDA company, Galaxy’s test data analysis tools can be used for maximising device yields, improving test quality and reducing DPM (defects per million) in semiconductor production. Joe Sawicki, general manager of Mentor Graphics design-to-silicon division, writes: “The ...

Silicon Labs will demonstrate its new Bluetooth-enabled biometric sensing wearable design based on a Bluetooth low energy system-in-package module at Electronica in Munich next month. Silicon Labs will also demonstrate its mesh networking silicon and software for IoT implementations in home automation. Another demonstration at the exhibition will be a Bluetooth-enabled wearable heart rate measurement (HRM) device, featuring optical sensors, advanced HRM algorithm, Bluetooth low-energy wireless ...

Electronica: Melexis shines light on sensors

Melexis MLX75305

Melexis showcasing sensors at this year’s Electronica. MLX75305 is a light sensor optimised for laser-powered vehicle lighting systems, providing a one chip solution for monitoring headlamp output. Photodiode, trans-impedance amplifier and output stage are all on-board. Spectral bandwidth is 500-1,000nm, and ±2% linearity is claimed across the whole output voltage range. The part is AEC-Q100 qualified, amd works across -40 ...

Avnet Silica targets “upgradeable cars”

Semiconductor technologies for automotive applications will also be a big focus for distributor Avnet Silica at Electronica 2016. According to Avnet Silica, the industry is characterised by a rapidly increasing speed of innovation, driven by consumers’ desire for new features such as upgradeable cars, shared mobility and on-demand services. “Market disruption is further fuelled by the emergence of new business ...
