Handheld signal analyser for 5G NR

Siglent has created a multi-instrument mobile 5G signal analyser for 5G NR/LTE with 9kHz to 7.5GHz range and 110MHz real-time analysis bandwidth.

“Combining spectrum analysis, vector network analysis, cable testing and antenna testing into a single portable platform, the SHA860A delivers versatility for base station deployment, maintenance, and on-site troubleshooting,” according to the company.

Its 5G NR over-the-air mode demodulates signals to extract parameters including frequency, physical cell identity (PCI), SSB index, frequency error and error vector magnitude for the SSB portion, visualised through constellation diagrams.


For LTE over-the-air testing, demodulation metrics include PCI, sector identity, cell group, frequency error, time offset, synchronisation status and power levels, alongside EVM measurements and constellation diagrams.


300,000 FFT/s can be taken during signal analysis and the company claims 100% probability of intercept for transient signals as short as 3.51µs. The 300MHz sample rate is backed by 1Gbyte of ram and tools include frequency mask triggering, and density, 3D, spectrogram and Power vs time displays.

Single-port cable loss, return loss, insertion loss, VSWR and distance-to-fault can be measured for cables and antennas, with an optional upgrade to one-path two-Port vector network analysis with S11/S21 testing, Smith chart display and 114dB dynamic range for amplitude/phase responses.

Pulse analysis evaluates power, pulse transitions and signal characteristics using positive/negative peak, sample and average detection.

For indoor and outdoor coverage mapping, there is data logging with GPS-based positioning.
