Pb-free thermistors for battery packs and drones

TDK has announced two series of Pb-free bead thermistors.

“Both series are Pb-free and can measure temperatures between -40 °C and +155 °C,” according to the company. “At room temperature, their maximum power dissipation is 60mW. Both series are available with different rated resistances between 1kΩ and 100kΩ and different R/T characteristics [see table]. After 10,000h at +70°C, the deviation of the resistance at room temperature R25 is less than 3%.”

The L862 series (B57862L… part numbers) have epoxy-coated bendable wires made from 0.25mm (30AWG) silver-plated nickel wire. Total length of head and wire is 50mm. Dissipation factor is ~1.4mW/K, thermal time constant is 14s amd heat capacity is ~20mJ/K.

The L871 (B57871L…) series has bare 0.4mm copper-clad steel wire leads pre-formed to 2.5mm spacing.
Dissipation factor is ~3mW/K, thermal time constant is ~9s and heat capacity is ~27mJ/K.

The beads are 6-7mm long and have a maximum diameter of 2.8mm.

Use is foreseen in automotive and industrial applications, for example: battery packs, power banks, energy storage and drones.
