NEC adds Raspberry Pi socket to displays

NEC  has adopted Raspberry Pi as a standard internal display peripheral “enabling a seamless integration of Raspberry Pi’s devices with NEC’s displays”, said NEC.

In this case, it is the third-generation Raspberry Pi Compute Module – an industrial computer with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor.

“The latest Raspberry Pi 3 compute module boasts significant performance and networking capabilities,” said NEC. “With a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, the board is no longer just a basic computer for coding but a reliable intelligent device with unlimited possibilities.”


As well as the Raspberry Pi 3 compute module, NEC will offer a customised model to meet the specific performance demands of the display industry.


“Our open platform approach provides display intelligence at any time, thanks to our modular and interchangeable design. Integrating the Raspberry Pis with our displays will provide businesses with technology suitable for digital signage, streaming and presenting,” said NEC v-p of marketing Stefanie Corinth.

NEC is planning to launch professional-grade large format displays (P and V Series) with Raspberry Pi connectivity from January 2017, starting with 40, 48 and 55inch versions, then adding more, up to 98inch.
