1.75 million Pis were sold in Q1 and 640,000 were sold in March.

Pi boss Eben Upton said the increase demand came from people using them for home schooling and companies using them to implement home remote working.

There have also been moves to use Pis to control medical ventilators. Marco Mascorro has shared a ventilator design, specs, code and components for a Pi-controlled ventilator on GitHub.

Upton said that the number of unique IP addresses accessing the Raspbian Raspberry Pi OS’s mirror system, – described as “a proxy for new installations” – passed 90,000 on several days in March.

The number of unique IP addresses accessing the Raspbian mirror system daily in March is well up on last year’s figures.
