Artesyn Technologies has added a 100W series of eighth-brick DC/DC converters intended for high-end telecoms applications such as mobile/optical switches and high capacity network routers to its Typhoon family of board mounted power products.
The converters provide single isolated outputs of 2.5V, 3.3V and 5.0V, with continuous current ratings of 40A, 30A and 20A respectively. All three provide high efficiencies and power densities: The 5.0V model, for example, has a typical efficiency of 92 per cent and achieves more than 160W/in³ (9.8W/cm³).
The converters feature a wide input voltage range of 36-75Vdc, and generate a single output voltage which can be adjusted from 80 per cent to 110 per cent of nominal using a single resistor. There is no minimum load requirement, and the devices provide a true monotonic start-up characteristic under both normal and pre-biased load conditions, significantly simplifying design-in.
Set point accuracy is ±1.5 per cent, and the devices maintain output voltage regulation to within 0.1 per cent for all input voltages in the range 36-75V, and to within 0.2 per cent for all permissible load currents.
The output of the 2.5V, 40A converter typically deviates by just 90mV for a 1A/µs step change in load current and will totally recover within 20µs. Sample quantities of the converters are available for immediate delivery.
