Renesas offers support for starter kit

Renesas Technology and partner Thesycon have introduced USB stack support for the H8SX/1664-based, RSK1664 Renesas starter kit.

The H8SX/1664 features a USB function and a 50 DMIPS H8SX CISC CPU core.

From the PC side, Thesycon provides a generic USB device driver for Windows, called USBIO. This allows Windows application developers to control any kind of USB device. No DDK development is required.

Thesycon’s USB device software stack implements the core functionality of a USB device and optionally provides device class specific protocols. It enables developers to easily add USB device functionality to embedded systems incorporating Renesas H8S/H8SX USB microcontrollers.

The software stack complies with the USB v2.0 specification. It supports the transfer modes control, bulk and interrupt at full speed. Complete USB request processing and extended error recovery mechanisms that are required for reliable operation are implemented internally.

The stack firmware is written in ANSI-C and supports the Renesas Embedded Workshop development environment. The software is designed as a library and provided as source code. The library does not depend on any specific operating system support. It can be integrated into any embedded OS, or can be used in stand-alone applications.

To support the development process, a USB bus powered E10A-USB can be used as an emulator. The RSK1664 starter kit and the H8SX/1654 and 1664 series microcontrollers are available via all Renesas distributors.
