Bluetooth + Zigbee module has MCU and hardware security

Mouser Electronics is stocking modules that combine Bluetooth and Zigbee radios with a secured microcontroller.

Mouser Microchip WBZ350 wireless module

Called WBZ350, they are made by Microchip and based on its PIC32CX-BZ family of 32bit wireless MCUs, in this case a PIC32CX5109BZ31032 with a 64MHz Arm Cortex M4F processor.

There are two versions:


  • WBZ350PE has an on-board antenna
  • WBZ350UE has a U.FL connector for an external antenna

Both are pre-certified in the U.S., Canada, Europe, China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea, according to Mouser.


Measurements are 18.7 x 13.4, and the connector version is 2.8mm tall without the connector mated.

The 2.4GHz transceiver supports Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.2, IEEE 802.15.4, and Zigbee 3.0, with hardware arbitration for Bluetooth and 802.15.4 coexistence.

Transmit output power is up to +11dBm and receiver sensitivity goes down to -108dBm.

“WBZ350 modules protect applications with hardware-based security,” said Mouser. “NIST-compliant authentication and secure boot ROM ensure only trusted software is able to run.”

Secure over-ther-air update is implemented.

Memories include: 512kbyte of ECC (error correction code) flash, 96kbyte multi-port ram, up to 32kbyte of ram retained in back-up and 64kbyte of secure boot rom. This is backed by a 16 channel direct memory access controller.

Peripherals including capacitive touch, ADCs, a DAC and comparators.
