Q3 semi sales up 23.2% y-o-y, says SIA

Q3 semiconductor sales were up 23.2% y-o-y and 10.7 % m-o-m at $166 billion, says the SIA.

September sales of $55.3 billion were 4.1% up on August’s $53.1 billion..

“The global semiconductor market continued to grow during the third quarter of 2024, with quarter-to-quarter sales increasing at the largest rate since 2016,” says SIA CEO John Neuffer. “sales in September reached the market’s highest-ever monthly total, driven by a 46.3% year-to-year increase in the Americas.”


Regionally, year-to-year sales in September were up in the Americas (46.3%), China (22.9%), Asia Pacific/All Other (18.4%), and Japan (7.7%), but down in Europe (-8.2%). Month-to-month sales in September increased in Japan (5.3%), Asia Pacific/All Other (4.5%), the Americas (4.1%), Europe (4.0%), and China (3.6%).

  1. Greetings DAVID – the latest run of the Cowan LRA forecasting model using the SIA/WSTS Sept sales numbers points to a full year 2024 revenue prediction of $616.153B. This is up again from last month’s forecast of $610.468B.
    The yr-o-yr 2024 sales growth forecast thus comes in at 17.0% which is up compared to last month’s sales growth forecast of 15.9%
    Also, the YTD actual yr-o-yr sales growth – through Sept 2024 – comes in at 19.9% which is up from last month’s result of 19.4% and certainly higher than the updated Cowan LRA Model’s prediction of 17.0%.
    These latest numbers and the trend thus imply very positive results for this year’s worldwide semiconductor industry. It will be interesting to see if the sales momentum continues through the fourth quarter.
