Take a detailed look at Philips Lumiblade OLED lighting technology. We take a peek at some of the uses of the flexible, low heat-emitting OLED technology in the form of chandeliers, desktop lamps, art installations, and a comparison with fluorescent lighting...

Euro-sensor catches a million frames a second

A sensor which can detect a single photon at a million times a second has been produced by European researchers. The sensor enables the world's first 1024 pixel, photon-resolution, million-frame-per-second CMOS camera. One application is the recording of 'thought' processes travelling along neurons.

The University of Hull has spun out Polar OLED, an OLED display firm which claims to have materials that allow significant cuts in display manufacturing costs. Its intellectual property is based around polymerisable liquid crystaline organic semiconductors, which are distinct from conventional small molecule and polymer OLED materials, company co-founder Professor Steve Kelly told Electronics Weekly.

NXP pushes LED driver lifetimes beyond 7,000 hours

With LED lighting offering the potential to be ten times more efficient than incandescents, manufacturers are commonly reporting lifetime figures exceeding 50,000 hours. As a result the issue of reliability shifts to the associated devices particularly the LED driver
