The IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) server upgrade allows for verifying the IMS and VoLTE functionality of mobile devices.

IMS is used in LTE networks to provide voice services such as voice over LTE (VoLTE).
The addition of the IMS server to the CMW500 allows it to support end-to-end voice and video calls and can test the interaction between two mobile devices.
It is possible to create user-defined tests. As a result users can configure and save virtual subscribers with varying usage profiles.
“Together with the CMW500 IP analysis function, it is possible to analyse transmitted data and media information for VoLTE, such as whether a mobile phone uses the correct codec,” said Rohde & Schwarz.
Wireless comms test and certification house CETECOM will allow for device manufacturers to test for LTE / LTE-Advanced, IMS and WiFi coexistance.
The test house has upgraded its R&S TS8980FTA-2, R&S CMW-PQA and R&S CMW500 wireless test platforms to include: LTE location based services performance; VoLTE E-911 protocol; eMBMS RF performance, LTE carrier aggregation RF performance, IMS/VoLTE protocol; RCS protocol; ePDG / WiFi calling over IMS, and WiFi offloading.
