Giving the opening address at Semiconductor 2004 in Edinburgh next month is Rainer Zimmerman, head of nanoelectronics and photonics at the Information Society Directorate-General of the European Commission.
Zimmerman’s speech will include a strategic overview of the EU’s approach to semiconductor equipment and materials, as well as a summary of potential collaborative funding routes for the sector.
“Semiconductor 2004 offers an excellent opportunity for sharing ideas and action plans about our current and future European research activities. I am very enthusiastic at the prospect of discussing with such a high level group of key representatives from the materials and production equipment industry,” said Zimmermann.
Held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on June 17 and 18, the Semiconductor 2004 conference will also look at security in silicon and compound semiconductors. A key theme at the conference will be China’s fast growing and heavily subsidised semiconductor sector.
Speakers confirmed for the event include Colin Whitehouse, director of engineering at CCLRC, microdisplay expert Dr Ian Underwood, and chip analysts Malcolm Penn and George Pollock.
Now in its fifth year, Semiconductor 2004 is organised by JEMI UK to address the technical and commercial challenges facing the industry.
