Brick-style mains PSUs use GaN to shrink dimensions

CUI has turned to GaN transistors to shrink its 300W and 120W mains adapters.

“Due to their compact size, these ac-dc supplies are ideal for a variety of portable consumer and industrial applications like sequencing, molecular testing, and livestock tracking,” according to the company.

  • SDI300G-U 300W continuous, 183 x 83 x 35, IEC Class I safety (three-prong C14 connector, pictured)
  • SDI300G-UR 300W continuous, 183 x 83 x 35, IEC Class II safety (two-prong C18 connector)
  • SDI120G-U 120W continuous, 132 x 51 x 32mm, IEC Class I safety (three-prong C14 connector)

All inputs can accept 85 to 265Vac and power factor correction is included.


Outputs are single, with a choice of 12, 19, 20, 24, 48 or 56V. Max power out is slightly lower than nominal in 12V versions.


All models comply with UL/cUL 62368-1 requirements and meet average efficiency and no-load power specifications mandated by the US Department of Energy’s Level VI standard.
