6U Xeon D-2800 VPX processor for military radar

Kontron is aiming at military radar with is latest 6U VPX plug-in computer card, based around Intel Xeon D-2800 or D-2700 processors.

Knotron VX6096 Xeon computer

Called VX6096, it includes VITA48.8 through-flow air cooling to allow operation over -40 to +55°C or, on request, -40 to +70°C (FC3) or even -40 to +85°C (CC-4). “The VITA 48.2 Type 2 conduction-cooled version can withstand card edge temperatures from -40 to +70 °C, according to VITA 47, contingent on the processing load and mezzanine performance,”said Kontron, “It is available with the VITA 48 REDI two-level maintenance cover.”

Processor choice is 2GHGHz Xeon-D2775TE for 16 cores and 32 threads (100W TDP), or D2896TER for 20 cores and 40 threads (110W TDP). Cache is 25 or 30Mbyte and 64-128Gbyte of quad channel DDR4 ram with ECC can be fitted. 100Gb Ethernet is supported.

“Thanks to the XMC or MXM expansion slots, a GPU board can enhance the graphics and compute capabilities,” according to the company. “VX6096 is designed in alignment with the SOSA Technical Standard and offers real-time capabilities with TSN and Intel TCC support. To achieve PFR [platform firmware resiliency] defined in the NIST standard [it] has security features such as TPM2,  and a secure PLD. Kontron SEC-Line solution brings secure and measure boot.”

A rear transition module (PB-VX6-0000) provides access to board main I/Os.

Applications are foreseen in airborne mapping, navigation, surveillance, airborne early warning, long-range tracking and target localisation.
