3A bipolar transistors in 2x2mm DFN2020D-3 package

Nexperia has announced 20 bipolar power transistors in 2 x 2mm DFN2020D-3 packaging, half of them automotive-qualified.

The span 50 and 80V ratings, 1 to 3A currents and both npn and pnp polarities.

“DFN2020D-3 packaged devices deliver an 80% reduction in board space when compared to SOT89, and a 90% reduction compared to SOT223,” according to the company. “The package also features side-wettable flanks to enable automated optical inspection of solder joints.”

SOT1061D is the other name for this package. To allow for side wetting, it has a 2.5 x 2.1 footprint on the PCB, which is 5.25mm², compared with 4.83mm² for the non-side-wetting SOT1061/DFN2020-3.

Of these, the company highlights its PBSS5350PAS-Q pnp 50V, 3A low saturation voltage transistor.

This will drop only 320mV max at 2A with 100mA base drive (25°C) or 390mV max at 3A with 300mA drive. Saturation resistance is 135mΩ max (90mΩ typ).
