250kVA filter for monster grid-connected vehicles

Danfoss Power Solutions has launched a 250kVA 560Vac three-phase mains filter for heavy all-electric vehicles that are powered directly from the grid.

“All components are rated for 300Arms. EC-LCL1200B-350 [is] a heavy-duty LCL electric filter specifically designed for off-highway applications,” according to the company. “Applications include drilling equipment, material handling equipment and tethered excavators.”

Danfoss-Editron-LCL1200B-electric-filter blockIt is suited to both 50 and 60Hz operation, protected by IP6K9K and IP67 sealing, and can be used across -40 to +85°C and up to 4,000m altitude.

Liquid cooling is required at a minimum of 20 litre/min and maximum of +65°C. Three internal PT100 sensors are provided for monitoring, and maximum allowable internal temperature is 125°C.

Internal contactors are provided to switch through-power on and off, and to operate pre-charge resistors.

This is a smart filter, needing a separate 8 to 32Vdc ~32W supply to power the internal circuitry.

Its signals are compatible with the company’s EC-C1200-450-L three-phase ac-dc power converter, which it is designed to partner.

“The combination of components [filter and converter] is bidirectional, meaning that it can take power from the grid and feed power back to the grid,” said Danfoss.

The filter measures 590 x 874 x 178mm and 127kg, and its vibration and shock characteristics are designed for vehicle use.

Two of them can be paralleled to increase output power.
