High energy density capacitors are up to 90% lighter than ceramics

They also have an increased operating temperature up to 140°C and transient voltage protection. Capacitance ranges from 1μF – 1000μF and voltages from 50V – 1,000V. Operating temperature range is -55°C to +140°C.

Studies on use-cases of controls and DC-links functions for aircraft applications have shown around 50% reduction in size and weight compared to other film technologies, says the company. Compared with multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), there is a 70% – 90% weight reduction with no capacitance derating with voltage applied and a low drift < 5% through the temperature range. As a result, applications using clusters of stacked MLCCs can now be replaced by a single MML unit.
