Lip-Bu Tan is Intel CEO

Lip-Bu Tan (pictured) is to be the CEO of Intel from March 18th

The former board member resigned last August citing  frustrations with a  ‘bloated’ workforce, a  ‘risk-averse culture’ and a lack of a convincing AI strategy.

In a memo to Intel staff, Tan said the company turnaround will not be easy “but I am joining because I believe with every fibre of my being that we have what it takes to win. Intel plays an essential role in the technology ecosystem, both in the US and around the world.”

“We will work hard to restore Intel’s position as a world-class products company, establish ourselves as a world-class foundry and delight our customers like never before,” wrote Tan, “that’s  what this moment demands of us as we remake Intel for the future.”

Tan has served on many boards as well as Intel, including Samba Nova, Habana Labs, Nuvia, Inphi, Annapurna Labs, HPE, , Schneider Electric, Softbank and SMIC.
