“With a standard for video and high-speed data transmission based on ‘gigabit multimedia serial link technology’, adoption and innovation of the OpenGMSL standard will reshape autonomous driving, driver assistance systems and infotainment applications,” according to Association member Analog Devices.
Other members include: Aptiv, Coilcraft, Core Microelectronics, Denso, Ethernovia, Geely, GlobalFoundries, Granite River Labs, Indie Semiconductor, Keysight Technologies, Hyundai Mobis, Murata Manufacturing, NOFFZ Technologies, Omnivision, Qualcomm Technologies, Rohde & Schwarz, Rosenberger, Teledyne LeCroy, TDK, TZ Electronic Systems and Würth Elektronik.
Paul Fernando is OpenGMSL Association president.
“With over one billion GMSL ICs shipped and adoption by more than 25 global OEMs and 50 Tier-1 suppliers, GMSL is one of the road-proven high-speed video link technologies in the automotive industry,” he said. “OpenGMSL builds on this foundation to accelerate innovation across autonomous driving, ADAS and next-gen infotainment – growing a thriving ecosystem into an open, collaborative future.”
The Association is a non-profit entity with an independent board of directors.
Products developed using the standard will require mandatory compliance testing for multi-vendor interoperability.
GMSL originated at Analog Devices.
It has a SerDes PHY signal generator and uses coax or shielded twisted pair as a transmission medium. Video, audio, control, data and power can be transported on a single channel.
Video splitting as well as daisy-chained displays can be accommodated.
“Supportive of ASIL B-rated devices and meeting stringent EMI/EMC requirements, GMSL is a functional safe solution with real-time link diagnostic capabilities to ensure reliable and optimised system operations,” claimed ADI.
Membership enquiries are invited from automotive OEMs, suppliers, semiconductor manufacturers and ecosystem partners, said the Association, which can be found at www.opengmsl.org.
OpenGMSL Association will also have a presence at AutoSens in Detroit next week.
